United Methodist Women

THE UNITED METHODIST WOMEN INVITE THE WOMEN OF CALVARY to the annual Christmas Party on Tuesday, Dec. 6, at 6:30 in the church parlor.

Betty Hepler will lead us in singing Christmas carols, we will have a special Christmas devotional, and lots of fun and good company will be provided. Please bring either a dessert or an appetizer to share with others and a gift that the children of Arden House or Light House Shelter can have to give to their moms on Christmas day (gifts are for Moms) or a gift for the Emergency Baby Pantry. Let's start the Christmas season by celebrating each other and giving to others

***********************************************************************************************

The Calvary United Methodist Women is a community whose purpose is to know God; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; to expand concepts of mission through helping women and children.

The United Methodist Women of Calvary support the following efforts:

  • The Anne Arundel County Emergency Baby Pantry
  • Provides school suplies to local schools and gift cards at Thanksgiving & Christmas
  • YWCA Abused Women's Program
  • UMCOR with emergency supplies sent world-wide
  • Anne Arundel County CROP Walk
  • Provides meals for church families with new babies (Meals for Moms) and others in need
  • Provides dinners for church groups and various activities
  • Contributes to the CUMC Discretionary Fund
  • Assists with special requests as required
  • Supports the projects of the Women's Division of the eneral Board of Global Missions

Contributing to these Missions are the annual flea market (Attic Treasures), pecan sales, and Holiday Bazaar.  The Kitchen Ministers cater lunches and dinners to outside organizations and funeral receptions.

Everyone is welcome to attend and participate in monthly Circle meetings. The Women's Focus Circle focuses on specific acts of service or specific study topics based on the passions of the women who join the group. Harmony Circle meets on the third Wednesday at 1 pm in the church parlor. Friendship Circle meets the third Tuesday at 7 pm in the home of a member. Needle Arts Fellowship meets monthly on the first Thursday afternoon at 1:00 in the home of a member.

Contact Marilyn Leek for additional information.

The United Methodist Women's 2012 Retreat is set for March 16, 17 and 18 and is gearing up to be another special time for all involved! Carolyn Rude, Liza Smith, Beth Schoeller and Roberta Liddick are working with Pastor Alicia in the planning of this most rewarding event. It will again be held at the lovely Bon Secours Spiritual Retreat in Marriottsville, MD. The cost is $300 for each guest. If anyone is in need of financial assistance, please contact either Marilyn Leek at 410.533.8971 or Linda Johnson.

The featured UMW Group for October is Needle Arts Fellowship:
We are an informal group that meets monthly on the first Thursday afternoon at 1:00 for a time of fellowship. We each bring our own needlework project (knitting, crocheting, needlepoint, etc.) to keep our hands busy while we chat. Help is available for those who want to learn. Some of us work on projects for the Anne Arundel Medical Center (hats for newborn babies and caps for chemo patients), and others work on their own projects. We welcome newcomers to our group with or without needlework in hand. Contact Gen Turman at 410-224-0316 for further details.

Emergency Baby Pantry (EBP) is an arm of Food Link in AA County that supplies necessities for newborn babies whose mothers can't afford them and have been referred by the Department of Social Services.

The pantry is in constant need of baby formula, baby food, and newborn diapers. Newborn and infant clothing, new and gently used are accepted also. There is a mraked donation box in the coat room, and monetary donations may be made payable to "Calvary UMW" (United Methodist Women) noting "EBP" in the memo line of the check, and placed in the Sunday offering plate. Questions may be directed to Marge Bechert at 410-266-3631 or mtbechert@comcast.net.
