Mission Opportunities:

CURRENT VOLUNTEER NEEDS AT THE LIGHT HOUSE SHELTER – the Light House Shelter (LHS) and City of Annapolis Winter Shelter at 206 West Street (the "old" Light House facility) is encountering a staff shortage for the weekend of February 17, 18 and 19. If you would like to volunteer to help on one of these evenings, make a meal and help serve to the Winter Shelter clients, contact Carol Ferdock, Asst. Volunteer Coordinator at LHS. Her number is 410-349-5056, ext. 205 or cferdock@annapolislighthouse.org.

SOUPER BOWL SUNDAY – to date, our generous congregation, in addition to over 250 bags of groceries, donated over $1400 to the Light House Shelter Food Pantry. Thank you for your continued support.

Current Events and Happenings:

FAITH IN LIFE ADULT STUDY a new 10am adult class began last week, but is still open to new participants. It is designed to help both single and married adults live out their faith throughout various stages of life. Led by Ken and Patricia Nesbit, the class will begin with a focus on the book "Making Love Last a Lifetime" by Rev. Adam Hamilton. No sign-up needed - join us in Room 121.

DINNER FOR EIGHT groups will be reorganizing for March, April, May and June. If you need to drop out, join in or be put on the substitute list, please call Judy Roblyer at 410-757-6226 by February 19. If you are staying in for the next rotation, you do not need to call.

UNITED METHODIST WOMEN'S FRIENDSHIP CIRCLE will meet Thursday, February 21, at 7 pm in the church parlor and begin a study entitled "Science & Religion". Please join us for Christian study, worship, mission outreach, fellowship, love and sisterhood.

USHERS NEEDED – several more people are needed to serve as ushers at each service. Ushers are an important part of our worship service and help to keep the services running smoothly. If you would like to serve or need more information, please see one of the ushers, Royce Weaver, or Rev. Alicia Vanisko.

WOMEN'S RETREAT – March 16-18, 2012! This year's theme is "Spice" and space is still available. Our program will be led by Calvary's Associate Pastor, Alicia Vanisko, who will take us through discovering how our relationship with God, each other and ourselves is the flavor and seasoning spice of our lives. We are represented by young women all the way up to well "seasoned" women; we laugh, relax and chill on this weekend of spiritual renewal. United Methodist Men – start their 2012 Educational Series on Tuesday, February 21 at 7 pm in Room 119. We will join in and eat at the youth's Pancake Supper in Fellowship Hall prior to the meeting. The series begins with "How Does Calvary Operate" and will consist of a review of the church and organization and what ministry teams are responsible for. our meetings are open to all men and women. We look forward to seeing you.

Adult Lenten Studies – will begin on Sunday, February 26, at 10am and 5:30 pm. For more details and to sign up, see the Weekly Opportunities insert.

M&M Kids are dong an Animal Shelter project. We need kids-size towels, dog and cat food (unopened bags or cans), Carefresh bedding, and Kong toys for dogs and ball toys for cats. Please bring your items in by March 4. There is a collection box in the coatroom.

Financial Peace University – This class is in progress, but anyone can drop in for just one lesson. This week's topic will be "Credit Sharks in Suits: What is a credit score anyway?" join Dave as he unpacks your credit rating and shows you how to handle collectors w hen they call. This class will be held in Room 119 on Wednesday from 709 pm.

Education Supplies Coordinator – One person is needed to come in for an hour or two per week to help organize and coordinate supplies with Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and special event ministries. Times are flexible, but would work best if available daytime (not Fridays) to be able to work with Julie Tisinger. Sign up on the Weekly Opportunities insert.

ADULT LENTEN STUDIES
Two studies for Lent, both written by Rev. Adam Hamilton, will begin on Sunday, Feb. 26.
o At 10 am, Cathy and Ford West will lead the study "Final Words: From the Cross", examining Christ's dying hours and his final words as seen and heard through the eyes and ears of those who stood near the cross. This class will meet through April 1.
o At 5:30 pm, Rev. Alicia Vanisko will lead the study "24 Hours That Changed the World", a journey from the Last Supper to Gethsemane, to the trial, and to the Crucifixion. This class will meet through March 25.

LENTEN DINNER AND PROGRAM
Dinner from 6-6:45 pm, followed by a program from 6:45-7:15 pm. Cost for dinner is $5 for adults and $3 for children 8 and under. You may pay at the door, but please sign up ahead of time.
o On Wednesday, Feb. 29, the Worship Commission will prepare dinner of soup and salad.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL VOLUNTEERS
VBS will be held July 16-20, 5:30-8 pm.
____ Decorating Team Leader – calls together a group of volunteers to look at, plan for, and put into place the decorations for the church.
____ Decorating Team Member – works with the Team Leader to plan for and put into place decorations.
____ Tots Program Leader – plans and leads the daily activities for children who will be 3 by Sept. 1.
____ Elementary Program Coordinator – coordinates with the activity leaders and crew leaders for our K-5th Grade children to ensure that they are ready for VBS, and is available during VBS to help with last minute changes and needs.
