"Souper" Bowl Sunday is February 5th. On this day bags of food will be collected from our congregation for donation to the Food Pantry at Light House Shelter. The pantry provides two bags of groceries per month to families in our community who are in need of assistance. On Sunday, January 22nd and January 29th, we will be handling out grocery bags with the list of needed items attached. Please note that this year's list (see list below) is new and more concise. It is the most current and up to date list of what is needed. Thank you to Graul's Market for donating the paper bags. Please return your food contributions on Sunday, February 5th and we will deliver them directly to Light House. If you would rather make a monetary donation, please write your check to Calvary UMC with "LHS Food Pantry" noted on the check.
We will need men and women with trucks to help collect and deliver to Light House. If you are willing and able to help on February 5th, please contact Patti Heisman RPHeisman@verizon.net or 410 266-7751. Thank you for your support!
The Light House, in partnership with the City of Annapolis, will provide a "Winter Relief" program. From November 20th through March 15th, Light House volunteer programs will provide food and beds to 30 chronically homeless individuals at the old shelter building located at 206 West Street in Annapolis. These are different individuals than those who stayed in our church as part of the Arundel House of Hope "Winter Relief" Program. Light House will need help from the community to fill this critical need and make this year's Light House/City of Annapolis Winter Relief a success.
Contact Carol Ferdock, Assistant Volunteer Coordinator at Light House with any questions or to donate or volunteer. 410 349-5056 ext. 205 or cferdock@annapolislighthouse.org
The mission of this program is to provide dinners for the 60-75 residents of the Light House Shelter on the first Tuesday of each month. Each volunteer/household is asked to cook and serve one to two times a year, or more if they desire. We schedule four volunteers for each month's night and one individual usually takes the lead to organize the dinner plans among the group. A suggested menu has been developed by leaders with exact amounts and expenses of each ingredient to be purchased, but the menu can be varied as the group desires. The dinner should be served by 6pm and is usually prepared at the Shelter's kitchen, but dishes may be brought from home if prepared according to specifications. Clean-up is handled by the Shelter's residents. If you would like to join us in this volunteer effort, we welcome you to help us continue Calvary's commitment to this community mission program. For questions or to volunteer, please contact Betty Thompson or Beth Wilt.
Thanks so much for all of your support this year! The Holiday Season is rapidly approaching, so I wanted to share with you the ways in which we are asking for help to make the holidays brighter both for our residents and for those from the community who come to us for assistance.1. Sponsor-a-Family – I will have "Wish Lists" for the families in our program. If you are interested in providing gifts for a family, please contact me and I will get the wish list to you. You can request a particular family size. We ask that all gifts be delivered to the Light House by Monday, December 19th.
2. Gifts for Individual Residents - We have 34 single men and 20 single women in our facility and transitional properties. We are asking for a Gift Bag marked "Male" or "Female" with gift items inside. Here are a few gift item ideas:
* Gift Cards for stores within walking distance of the Light House such as: Target, Kohls and stores at the Annapolis Mall.
* Warm Gloves, Scarves, Hats
* New, unopened packages of underwear and socks
* Toiletry Items such as Travel Sized Shower Gel, Shampoo, Toothpaste, Deodorant, Combs, Brushes, Lotion, Antibacterial Gel, Razors and Shaving Gel

Feel free to contact Michelle Marshall if you have any questions or would like to volunteer to donate gifts or sponsor a family (contact info below).
