The Mission Committee along with a group of volunteers from Calvary is making plans for the annual UMVIM trip to Guatemala. We will be working with Dr. Hugo Gomez and the Community Health Evangelism (CHE) program. Dr. Hugo is the CEO of the newly formed Global CHE Enterprises which will be focusing the CHE efforts throughout Central America and Mexico. We will be there for one week in the Spring of 2011. We will stay in the city of Quetzaltenango and work each day in a Mayan Indian rural community about 45 minutes to one hour away alongside the indigenous people of Guatemala who live there. Typically we have a four day community work project and simultaneously a two or three day medical and dental clinic. Your talents are just what we need since we accept the guidance of the Holy Spirit to lead us in what we do as we plan and while we are in Guatemala. The team is planning to leave on a Saturday and we will return on the Sunday 8 days later. The cost of the trip is about $1400 which covers all expenses including airfare. Our Church funds the community work project. If you are a first time volunteer you may need a few inoculations and your booster shots up to date. A passport is also required for travel to Guatemala.
If you are unable to go along but would like to make contributions to offset some of the costs paid by the volunteers going to the Mayan Village, please mark your contributions for “Guatemala” and they can be deposited in the regular weekly offering or mailed to the Church office. This is your opportunity to be a part of our team by sponsoring a volunteer or contributing to the medical and dental clinic or community work project. The team is usually about 4 to 10 people. We will be collecting slightly used or new bath towels, along with bars of soap, small shampoos, small hand lotions, toothbrushes and toothpaste in a box in the narthex for about 4-6 weeks before we leave. We will give these to about 100 people in the village.
If you have been thinking about going along or supporting this trip now is the time to step up and help. Please pray for our team, our Guatemalan brothers and sisters in Christ, and this mission work
